A Kansas native, Brenda majored in business administration with a minor in economics at Wichita State University. She continued to attend Washburn School of Law, and after graduation was admitted to the Kansas Bar to practice law in September 1994.


She began her career in the Riley County Attorney's office as a prosecutor, but switched to criminal defense and family practice in 2005. After 2 years with the public defender's office, she opened her law firm.
